Niels Kirst

Biography

Niels is an Assistant Professor of EU law at the School of Law and Government at Dublin City University and Deputy Director of the DCU Brexit Institute. He has published several peer- reviewed articles, book chapters, blog posts and op-eds. He holds two master’s degrees in European and International law from the University of Paris II and the University of Toulouse I. Earlier on, he graduated with a Bachelor of Philosophy & Economics from the University of Heidelberg. He previously worked in the German Parliament, researched at the European Court of Justice, and interned at the German Federal Foreign Office.

In 2021, he won a YERUN Visiting Fellowship at Essex Law School with Professor Theodore Kostandinides. In 2022, he was awarded a KAS Visiting Fellowship at Cardozo Law School with Professor Michel Rosenfeld. His research interests lie in the area of rule of law, the Court of Justice, Brexit, competition law, legal technology, trade law, foreign affairs and geopolitics.
